Accessibility statement

The Community Career Ladder is built for everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnifiers, or captions.

Our commitment

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, for this tool and every digital tool in the program. Plain language matters too: we write body copy to an 8th-grade reading level wherever we can.

What is built in

  • A skip link and ARIA landmarks on every page.
  • Full keyboard operability with a visible focus outline.
  • Color contrast of at least 4.5 to 1 for text.
  • Every wage chart is paired with a data table that carries the same numbers, so nothing depends on the picture.
  • No information is encoded by color alone.
  • Video tutorials publish only with captions. Our player will not show a video that does not have a caption track.
  • Automated layout and landmark checks run in our test suite at five screen widths, from small phones to wide desktops.

Testing and audits

We test with keyboard-only navigation and automated checks on every change. We are recruiting VR participants, VR counselors, and service providers for structured user-testing sessions, and we will retain an independent accessibility auditor for an annual audit of this surface.

Last independent audit: not yet performed; the first independent audit is planned ahead of the program's first annual milestone (July 2027).

User-testing sessions held so far: 0.

Known limits

  • Some outbound tools we link to, like Career Coach and the county career dashboards, are run by other vendors. We pass accessibility feedback about them to the vendor.
  • Federal wage sources sometimes suppress values; we say "not published" rather than leaving a blank.

Tell us what is not working

If any part of this tool is hard to use with your assistive technology, we want to know. Email mthibideau@investhamiltoncounty.com and we will respond within two business days. A full help desk with ticket tracking is coming; email support is live today.

Statement last reviewed 2026-07-21. This statement also serves as the conformance record for the program's quarterly accessibility reporting.

Talk it through with your Alex coach

A conversation, not a form. Your coach knows Hamilton County's numbers and programs, and it will point you to the right tool for anything it can't answer. It's an AI coach, your chats are private, and they are never used to train anything.
